Creative Problem Solving

Session Overview:
Creative ability peaks for many people before the age of 10. The typical creative decline that many of us experience can be reversed. We can regain and surpass our level of creativity by breaking through barriers that block thinking and find new ways to reframe and tackle problems.

During this session participants will:
-Become aware of the importance of creative thinking and problem solving
-Identify attitudes that kill creative ideas
-Explore problem solving and decision making techniques
-Receive tools to help identify problems and make better decisions

Intended Audience:
Creative Problem Solving is for anyone who would like to develop or enhance his or her current problem solving ability.

April Nielsen
Training Manager, EDD University

Kirby Jones
Kirby Jones recently joined State Service as part of the team at the Employment Development Department’s EDD University. As an HR Consultant, she brings with her over 15 years of experience training clients and new hires in the private sector. Kirby taught in the Business School at California State University, Sacramento as an adjunct professor and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a Marketing Concentration. Her Master of Arts is in Marketing Education.

Sean Hammer-Hernandez
Sean Hammer-Hernandez is an experienced HR Manager who oversees the Health, Safety, Wellness & Benefit Services for the California Secretary of State. Sean has experience teaching supervisory skills and leadership development in both private and public sector. Prior to working at the Secretary of State, she spent one year as the Training Officer at the California State Lottery Commission. Before coming to State service, she spent 5 years as a Training Specialist at Vision Service Plan (VSP). Sean has a BS in Career and Technical Studies and a Master's of Arts in Education in Workforce Development Advocacy.
